I was born in Augusta, Georgia but spent most of my formative years in Lexington, South Carolina. I am a graduate of Lexington High School and the University of South Carolina. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communications, and I obtained my teaching certification through the American Board for Certification of Teaching Excellence (ABCTE).
I'm a huge psychology nerd and enjoy getting to know people (including my students) beyond the surface. For my fellow psych nerds, I'm an ISFJ on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.
My philosophy on life, in general, largely makes up my educational philosophy. I believe each and every person has a unique purpose, and with the right amount of support and encouragement, along with someone (e.g., a teacher) who shows their consistent belief in you, success is certain. I wholeheartedly believe education is a doorway that opens up to endless possibilities, and I want every one of my students to feel like their future is bright and, with hard work, they can do anything when they leave my classroom. I'm passionate about empowering my kids and believe every single soul in my classroom is there for a reason; that belief guides my instruction and intervention.
In my free time, I enjoy being with my family and friends, my fur-babies, playing guitar, cooking (and eating), working out, reading and writing, watching TV, and definitely sleeping. I'm a pretty horrible sports fan -- I watch the games so I can have tailgating food. (Sorry, Gamecocks!)
